Jack Higgins Cover Gallery

Jack Higgins is an author I've not read for years. Through no fault of the author, I should add: I've been through several periods in my life where, because of work, I've had to cut down on my reading dramatically, or, because of the nature of the work, I've had to concentrate on reading non-fiction rather than fiction.

It was because of this that, some years ago, I decided to revisit some of the authors whose work I'd enjoyed in the past, which is why you've seen quite a few of the old-style adventure writers (Alistair MacLean, Duncan Kyle, etc.) pop up in these occasional cover gallery features. If I spot a book by an author I've liked, I tend to gather up as many of their books as I can whenever I see them.

I also have this habit with authors who may not be particularly new but are new to me so I may have five or six of their books before I actually sit down and read one. This can work out nicely if I find an author I like: I've just finished reading the Stieg Larsson 'Millennium' trilogy (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest), which is really one huge book broken up into three parts; having bought all three before I started, I was able to move seamlessly from one to the next, which is a bit of a commitment as I was faced with 1,800 pages worth of story and I don't get that much time to read.

On other occasions it has done me no favours. For instance, I know James Patterson has a lot of fans but I just couldn't get into him. By the time I tried reading a couple, I'd gathered up about thirty of his books, which I ended up donating back to charity shops. I'm sure lots of people love his work, but it's not for me.

All this ramble is just to explain that I've picked up a whole bunch of Jack Higgins's work recently but I've not had time to sit down and read a single one of them yet. However, at  some point you have to get your ducks in order and make a list, or you may end up buying the same book two or three times. So while I'm getting organized, I thought it would be fun to put up a list of his work and a cover gallery. There's a huge potential confusion with Higgins as he has used a number of different pen-names - Higgins is itself a pen-name - and some books that were originally published under one name have been re-released under another, usually Jack Higgins. It also leads to utterly confusing credits like "Jack Higgins writing as Harry Patterson", which turns the truth on its head, as Harry Patterson is Jack Higgins' real name.

I've not tried to track down every paperback appearance, although I'll add in any details that have come my way. This is just a first stab at a  gallery as I fully expect to pick up more of these in the coming months.
